We Interrupt This Program grabs you in the first few minutes when we see Monica come back from the snap tiny particles by tiny particles at a time until she is whole. Immediately her priority becomes where is her mother, Monica finds her mother’s doctor only to learn her cancer came back and she died a few years ago
As much pain as Monica feels she needs to get back to S.W.O.R.D and fieldwork. She teams up with FBI agent Jimmy Woo (Randall Park) to look into the disappearance of a person in Witness protection who got sent to Westview. He knows the town exists but the local police say otherwise and this makes Park want to solve this mystery even more.
Monica uses a S.W.O.R.D. drone that quickly disappears into a pixel force field. She goes up to it and soon she too disappears into the land Wanda and the Westview citizens inhabit.
I do not think the fourth episode of the Marvel series sets up Wanda as the villain. Instead I see her as a tragic figure who has nothing left for her except her fantasy sitcom world.
Wanda will go to great lengths to keep it going. However, signs of cracks of this world do appear as viewers have seen in this episode and the previous three episodes.
1: Agnes and Herb refusing to answer Vision’s questions.
2: Wanda making the S.W.O.R.D. agent who became a bee keeper vanish so she could make Vision forget him.
3. The doctor saying how hard it is to leave to go on a vacation.
4. Wanda re-winding her scene with Dottie so she can’t ask about the voice speaking to them from the radio.
I do think Wanda will have more heartache ahead as the series continues and she will go to the brink of killing for the sake of killing. I do not think she has come to this point yet. Yes, she holds hostages and she threw out Monica from her world but did not kill her. I am not certain the agent aka bee keeper died.
I hope whether it’s faux Vision, the citizens or S.W.O.R.D itself, can somehow get Wanda to stop before she can no longer turn back from the dark path she is on. I really want this to happen. I prefer the tragic story/redemption over other theories that Kevin Feige and Marvel have set up Wanda as a new villain who will show no mercy in the future of the MCU.
