The UK show Million Pound Menu concept resolves around a group of investors who meet with teams of two people who want to open their own restaurant. Some of the people are trained chefs/cooks and others are self taught.
In season one, the people make meals while a group of investors look over the team portfolios. Then the investors taste the meals and choose the team who will move forward.
The first day the team sells half price meals and work out any issues before day two. Once the second day ends, the investor(s) have to decide the teams fate.
Season two of this show is a little different. The viewer does not see the teams at the initial meeting instead it is straight to the pop up restaurants. And the teams get an extra day to make things work and to convince the investor(s) to help them.
There are teams who succeed like Baba G ‘s and who have branched out to have several pop up restaurants. And teams like Naked Dough and Black Bear Burger who do not catch an investor(s) eye during the show but who succeed post show.
Although this show did not get renewal from Netflix, I still found it enjoyable. I felt what took place in each episode is probably what happens if cameras were not around to record it. Basically it felt real and has few gimmicks. The only issue I have is I wish I could visit these restaurants in person but alas this will have to wait.
